The NHS EMU Preparations Working Group has been set up as a result of the
Chancellor of the Exchequer's announcement to Parliament on 27 October 1997
in which he stated "it is essential that the Government and business prepare
intensively during this Parliament, so that Britain will be in a position to
join a single currency, should we wish to, early in the next Parliament".
